Preston Celebrates Women in Construction Week
Preston Companies is participating in Women in Construction Week (WIC), which will take place on March 3- 9. Women in Construction Week celebrates and promotes the role of women in the construction industry. Started by NAWIC (The National Association of Women in Construction), the first WIC Week began in 1998 and has grown and expanded each year since.
“Every year, we get excited to participate in Women in Construction Week and celebrate the incredible women at Preston and in the industry,” comments Director of Operations Technology and women’s employee resource group Preston Opportunities for Women to Excel and Rise (POWER) Chair Julia Salgueiro. “Preston has made it a priority to ensure the women at our company are supported through our women’s employee resource group and our mentorship program.”
“Preston developed a mentorship program through our women’s employee resource group, POWER, in 2023,” says Training Coordinator and POWER Mentorship Czar Brenda Vega. “Welcoming anyone in the company interested in participating, the program has been a huge success, connecting more experienced team members into developmental relationships with team members who want to expand their skills or experiences. We’ve found that this program is helping many Preston women form relationships with colleagues they wouldn’t organically form through their day-to-day roles.”
Formed in 2021, POWER seeks to develop an inclusive working environment for women and their allies within Preston that offers support and respect, fosters professional growth, identifies issues affecting women, raises the visibility of women for internal promotions and succession planning, emphasizes the representation of women holding leadership positions, and reaches out to women, students, and teens in our community for recruitment. POWER holds internal and external quarterly events to support these initiatives and launched a mentorship program for all Preston employees in 2023.
Preston will use its social media platforms to communicate the importance of Women in Construction Week. Follow our social media pages this week to learn more about our diversity and inclusion efforts, and visit the Women in Construction Week website for more information.
