Preston Celebrates Construction Inclusion Week
Preston Companies is participating in Construction Inclusion Week, taking place on October 16-20th. Construction Inclusion Week aims to build awareness of the need to improve diversity and inclusion in the construction industry by providing content and resources. Launched in 2021 as an industry-wide awareness initiative, Construction Inclusion Week is the first effort to harness the collective power of general contractors, specialty contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
“We’re excited to support Construction Inclusion Week this year,” comments Preston Human Resources and Marketing Director Lauren Trekell. “We acknowledge the importance of building a culture where everyone feels like they belong, and we encourage everyone to do their part in educating themselves on why this week exists and how this week benefits the entire construction industry.”
“I’m proud to be a part of Construction Inclusion Week,” says Director of Operations Technology and women’s employee resource group Preston Opportunities for Women to Excel and Rise (POWER) Chair Julia Salgueiro. “Our women’s employee resource group, POWER, has taken big steps in the past year to show our people that Diversity and Inclusion is a valued priority at Preston, and we want to walk our talk.”
Formed in 2021, POWER seeks to develop an inclusive working environment for women and their allies within Preston that offers support and respect, fosters professional growth, identifies issues affecting women, raises the visibility of women for internal promotions and succession planning, emphasizes the representation of women holding leadership positions, and reaches out to women, students, and teens in our community for recruitment. POWER holds internal and external quarterly events to support these initiatives and has launched a mentorship program for all Preston employees in 2023.
Preston will use its social media platforms to communicate the importance of inclusion in the industry and promote a focus on cultivating a culture that is supportive of diversity and inclusion. Follow our social media pages this week to learn more about our diversity and inclusion efforts, and visit the Construction Inclusion Week website for more materials.
